A Shadow in Summer is his first novel of the Long Price Quartet. He lives in New Mexico with his wife/5(). A Shadow in Summer is Daniel Abrahams debut and the first book in the Long Price Quartet series. After finishing this book, I have to say that Im deeply impressed by its originality/5.

A Shadow in Summer is his first novel in the Long Price Quartet. He lives in New Mexico with his wife. Daniel Abraham has had stories published in the Vanishing Acts, Bones of the World, and The Dark anthologies, and has also been included in Gardner Dozois's Year's Best /5(54).

From debut author Daniel Abraham comes A Shadow in Summer, the first book in the Long Price Quartet fantasy series. The powerful city-state of Saraykeht is a bastion of peace and culture, a major center of commerce and trade. Its economy depends on the power of the captive spirit, Seedless, an andat bound to the poet-sorcerer Heshai for life/5().

A Shadow in Summer reminded me very much of Guy Gavriel Kay's work. Limpid, measured prose is married to a barely-magical setting, and I really enjoyed it. There's a sense of care and investment in this book that is rare in contemporary fantasy/5(23). A Shadow in Summer is a difficult book to sum up in a routine synopsis, not because its plot is unduly complex or unwieldy, but because it is so gracefully constructed.

This is a book that never hurries but never bogs down in extraneous details either. It reveals its secrets one by one. Shadowed Summer was a fast read that was direct and to the point. It's a brilliant mystery surrounding a girl named Iris who doesn't need to make up ghost stories anymore.

She's got her own ghost to worry about. Vividly written, Intriguing plot and likable characters/5. Amongst the secret and lies, will love survive. Summer lives under a terrible shadow. It drains her, manipulates her and threatens to steal her future. A high-stakes mission offers a temporary escape.

She must use her mind-shadowing abilities to hunt down her target and find the truth. Hal Robinson is a soldier. He does not get distracted.

He wins. The following books about shadows are great not only for those who intend to make an official study of it, but also just for fun. Here you will find captivating stories from the lands far away (Shadow by Marcia Brown), touching books (Papa Lucky’s Shadow), unique fairy tales (Shadow Story), and books that might appeal to kids who are afraid.

On the whole, Riley is on target, except that the death struggles in the bogs have their own luminescent fascination.

And Christy Brown, whose crippling paralytic handicap has become a fictional. SHADOWED SUMMER is a spooky and suspenseful read, with a main character whose voice is so distinctive you'll have trouble getting it out of your head and heaps of Southern small town atmosphere.

The mystery is a page-turner and the ghost truly haunting, but the best part of this book is how real the characters and their relationships feel.5/5(5).A Shadow in Summer is the first in the Long Price Quartet by Daniel Abraham.

I went into this book blind based entirely on my enjoyment of reading his Dagger and Coin series. Due to that experience I went in hoping for a character based fantasy with a rich world/5(55).
